Briggs Equipment North West 200 Delivers Strong Economic Benefits for Northern Ireland

North West 200 News

The Briggs Equipment North West 200 generated more than £24m of economic benefit to
Northern Ireland this year according to, The Economic Impact & Tourism Report 2025,
carried out by Professional Event Solutions.

The Northern Ireland Media Monitoring Service (NIMMS) has also
reported that national and international coverage of the north coast
motorcycle road races produced £58m worth of media exposure and
destination marketing from this year’s event.

As Northern Ireland’s largest annual sporting event, the NW200
attracted over 100,000 fans during the 2025 race week. Over 26% of
those visitors travelled from outside the Province, with the local
borough area of Causeway Coast and Glens receiving the primary benefit
from the high economic returns and marketing exposure.

The report also pinpointed high levels of satisfaction amongst NW200
visitors, with both their experience of the race event and of the
local area reaching 94% and above approval ratings.

No other annual event in Northern Ireland achieves similar global
media reach or generates a greater return for the local economy.

Last week these significant benefits produced by Ireland’s leading
road race were recognised at the Causeway Chamber of Commerce Business
Awards with the NW200 winning the Best Tourism Business Award for a
second time plus the Community Impact Award.

The NW200, promoted by the members of the Coleraine & District Motor
Club Ltd, supports a large volunteer network. This has allowed the
event to develop a deep connection with the local community, creating
inclusive volunteering opportunities which were recognised when the
club received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2019.

‘The Briggs Equipment North West 200 is a totally unique global
sporting event.’ Event Director, Mervyn Whyte MBE, said on his recent
return from the Macau Grand Prix where he plays a leading role in
organising the Chinese motorcycle race.
‘Myself and the rest of the NW200 team are extremely proud of our
successes and the significant benefits delivered by the event produced
for the local economy and the community which have been highlighted in
this report.”

Planning for the 2026 NW200, the 97th edition of the north coast
races, is already well under way with dates announced for Race Week on
May 4-9. The line-up of the world’s leading teams and competitors
will be revealed in the coming weeks with local bike fans looking
forward to seeing Michael Dunlop MBE return to the famous 8.9 mile
Triangle course following his brilliant treble last May.
